Dear Village School Parents and Guardians,

It is our goal to support and enhance the best possible educational environment for our students, provide financial and voluntary support for the school and its programs, and foster relationships and communication between the school, teachers and home.

By sharing ideas, energy and opinions from parents/guardians, teachers and staff who have a variety of perspectives, we support greater school-wide involvement that will have a beneficial impact on students, teachers and parents/guardians.

Although the renovation continues to present some unique challenges we are working with the staff to create additional opportunities for parental involvement.  Your talents, skills, efforts and imagination can help create a stronger sense of community at the Village School.  Harnessing the creative and intellectual expertise of all of you for the benefit of our students, all of our children, would offer them a truly unique educational experience.  With your help, our school and the PTO will continue to evolve and thrive.

In cooperation with Michael Hanna, our new principal, we are asking that all parents/guardians make a “voluntary pledge” to contribute at least 3 hours to the Village School over the course of the year.  Many possible opportunities follow in this handout, but we would also love to hear from you if you have an innovative idea or suggestion.

We look forward to meeting and hearing from you throughout the course of the year.

With thanks,
Village School PTO

Remember to Slow Down!
Drop off and pick up can be a bit frantic but we’d like everyone to remember that all children’s safety must come first.  We applaud all the students who are riding their bikes or walking to school.

Parents should remind students of basic safety rules (no riding in and out of traffic, cross at crosswalks, pedestrians have the right of way, children should walk on sidewalks, no bike riding on school grounds immediately before or after school).

Lead by example!

Do you want to become more involved with your child's education? Consider becoming a candidate to fill one of the executive officer roles for the Village PTO for the 2009-2010 school year!

You will gain a better understanding of how the Village School operates while playing a key role in supporting the teaching staff and students.

Each role has been created in the hopes that they will be co-positions. By sharing ideas, energy and opinions from parents with various perspectives we hope to foster greater school wide involvement that will have a beneficial impact for students, teachers and parents.

If anyone is interested, or would like additional information, please contact us.

We'd love to hear from you!

Tapes for Education: Save all of your Crosby’s register receipts! All receipts dated October 1st and later are eligible to help us earn much needed educational equipment for the school. After you’ve collected a few, send them into school in an envelope marked “tapes for education”. At the end of the promotion (March 1st), we’ll let everyone know how we did and what we were able to bring to the school.

Box Tops: each little top is worth 10 cents! It may not sound like much but add them up and we could be looking at some serious money. Just do your regular shopping, hold onto those box top labels and send them into school!

The Magic Hat Thrift Shop is an ongoing source of funding for all PTOs. Every 6 weeks our school has a responsibility to “staff the shop”. We need to bring in volunteers to sort the donated goods, tag and hang clothing and tidy the shop (this helps us earn a bundle of $). It’s easy and you only need to sign up for an hour or two. The goods in the shop are top quality and reasonably priced. If you’d like to give it a try, contact Amy Rowe (amyrowe@verizon.net) or Joyce Clark (joycecavemom@gmail.com).

Doing some online shopping? Start at Schoolpop! This is a program where the PTO earns $ when you start your online shopping at the schoolpop site. Before you get going on your holiday list, register at schoolpop.com and then you can be on your way to visit their extensive list of online vendors.
