Dear Village School Parent,

Now that winter is truly here, snowbanks and ice are piling up on the sidewalks and roads on a regular basis. Children struggle to walk on or along these narrower routes to get to school. Due to the weather, more people are driving to school and traffic has increased on the access road. We understand the frustration of getting to school on time but it is imperative that we all take an extra moment to insure the safety of all of our children.

There have been several "close calls" where students have almost been hit by cars.

We ask that you please take extra caution and follow the rules of the road. We ask that everyone realize that a lack of safe driving practices endangers us all (especially the children). We ask that we all do our best to set the proper example for students. So...PLEASE Follow the rules for pick-up and drop-off!

Pick-up & Drop-off

  • Use caution as children ride their bikes and walk to school. They have the right of way!
  • 4th and 5th graders should be dropped by the rear entrance near the cafeteria. When you are dropping your child off please stay in the right lane and Use directionals so other drivers can be aware of your intentions. The left lane is for moving traffic. For their own safety, please do not let children out in the left lane. You MUST pull over to the right lane to drop off or pick up.
  • Drive slowly on the access road.
  • Urge your children to use the crosswalks and sidewalks. DO NOT walk along the guard rails on the access road.
  • Students who walk MUST use the cross walk where there is a crossing guard on Village St. This includes parents who accompany walkers.
  • Please provide a good example for your children by taking a few extra seconds to use the cross walk.
  • Please be respectful of the handicap spots that are marked in the back of the school near the cafeteria entrance. Be aware that there are two handicap spots against the fence and one on the cafeteria side. Parents with handicap stickers should not have to explain their need for a spot.

It appears that traffic has increased in the back of the building at dismissal time. Remember: Live parking only at arrival and dismissal times along the access road. Please do not leave your car. It is important that we keep the steady flow of traffic to minimize the amount of time it takes to move so many cars through the Access Road.

Reminder: Drive at very low speeds in the morning and afternoon on the Access Road. Remember, there are still a number of children who walk to school.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Parking
There is very little. We suggest walking whenever possible.

Crossing Guards
The crossings guards are managed by the Marblehead Police Department. If you notice that there is a crossing guard missing at one of the crossings, please contact Lt. Millett at 781-631-1212. Please contact the school as well, as we are not always aware of missing crossing guards other than the ones who patrol just outside of Village School.
